Asphalt Roofs are the most common roofing material in the US. Asphalt is made from fiberglass, tar and asphalt granules that sit on a fiberglass mat. The organic mat is saturated and coated with asphalt then surfaced with ceramic coated opaque mineral granules which are petrochemical oils within the shingle. It’s similar to road asphalt though asphalt is further refined through oxidation.
Asphalt shingles provide the least amount of protection to any structure because of its inherent weakness. However, the highest grade asphalt shingles are superior. We provide Class 4 impact rating with Class A fire rating. Class 4 impact means that it’s the highest level of impact resistance and in lab testing conditions the Class 4 asphalt shingle will withstand the impact of a 2″ ball dropped from 20′ without splitting or tears. Many insurance carriers allow for a significant discount to their policy holders when Class 4 impact shingles are installed on their roofs.
